With the advent ofcommunity psychiatry, the importance of the care of the chronic mental patients has been stressed. In this paper, the author discussed the definiton of the chronic mental patient, community as a treatment setting and various
programs
for community care. The experience of Kang-Hwa community mental health center as a model for developing the national plan for the community care of the chronic mental patients has been illustrated.
